1About these terms
These Terms of Enrolment form the basis of the partnership between Bright Beginnings Academy — Oxford International School (Rua 17 de Julho, Bairro Emília Dausse, Chimoio, Manica, Mozambique) and the parent or legal guardian who signs the enrolment contract. They apply from the moment an offer of a place is accepted until the pupil leaves or completes Secondary Grade 10.
Where these summary terms and the signed enrolment contract differ, the signed contract and the official Fee Schedule issued by the Admissions Office prevail. Day-to-day routines — timetables, uniform lists, club schedules — are communicated separately and do not override this document.
2Programmes & curriculum
Since 2015 we have taught the Oxford international pathway in English, with structured Portuguese-language support so that every child — whether from a Portuguese- or English-speaking home — can access the full curriculum and thrive. Classes run Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:00, with supervised breaks, lunch and co-curricular activities inside those hours.
| Stage | Ages / Grades | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Early Years | Ages 2–5 | Phonics-rich play, early numeracy, motor and social development, English immersion with Portuguese reassurance |
| Primary | Grades 1–7 | Literacy, mathematics, science, humanities, Portuguese, arts, sport and study habits |
| Secondary | Grades 8–10 | Deeper subject study on the Oxford pathway, examination preparation, guidance for upper-secondary choices |
- Reports are issued each term and discussed at parent meetings; learning-support plans are agreed in writing with families.
- Homework grows with age — short reading tasks in Early Years, structured assignments by Secondary — and is always purposeful, never busywork.
- How we handle pupil records, photos and communications is governed by our companion Privacy Policy & Student Data Protection.
3Application & admission
Admission is straightforward and personal: we want to know your child, not just their paperwork. Places are offered in order of completed applications while capacity lasts, with priority communication for siblings where possible.
- Enquire and visit. Message WhatsApp +258 844 277 021, email admin@bbamoz.com or visit Rua 17 de Julho, Bairro Emília Dausse, Chimoio. We will show you the campus and answer every question.
- Submit the application. Complete the application form and provide the documents below. There is no obligation at this stage.
- Assessment and conversation. A short, age-appropriate readiness check — play-based in Early Years, literacy/numeracy tasks higher up — plus a friendly chat with parents about goals, health needs and support.
- Offer and acceptance. Successful families receive a written offer stating the grade, start date and fees per the official Fee Schedule. The place is secured upon signed contract and payment stated in the offer.
- Welcome and settling-in. Timetable, class teacher introduction, materials list and first-week arrangements before day one.
Documents typically requested
- Child's birth certificate or passport copy; parent/guardian ID.
- Previous school reports and transfer letter (Primary and Secondary).
- Vaccination or health summary and allergy/medication information.
- Two recent passport-size photographs of the child (the office will confirm size).
4Fees & payments
We publish fees transparently — but deliberately print no amounts on this demonstration page. The only authoritative source is the official Fee Schedule issued by the Admissions Office for the current academic year, which states tuition per stage, any enrolment or materials charges, sibling arrangements, due dates and accepted payment methods.
- Fee statements and reminders are sent through the family's registered phone, email or WhatsApp.
- If a family anticipates difficulty meeting a deadline, contact the office early — arrangements can only be considered before arrears accumulate.
- Persistent non-payment, after written reminders, may lead to suspension of enrolment under Section 9 and the signed contract.
5Attendance & punctuality
Learning builds day by day, so regular, punctual attendance is a condition of enrolment. The school day runs Monday to Friday, 07:30–16:00. Gates and classrooms open in good time before lessons; repeated late arrival disrupts the whole class and is followed up with families.
- Absence reporting: notify the office before 08:00 on the day by phone or WhatsApp (+258 844 277 021), stating the child's name, class and reason.
- Planned absence: request in writing in advance. Term-time holidays during assessment periods are strongly discouraged.
- Collection: only authorised persons named at enrolment may collect a child. Changes must be communicated in writing; staff will verify identity where needed.
- Illness: keep contagious children at home until recovered; the school will call registered contacts if a pupil becomes unwell during the day.
6Conduct & values
Our community rests on respect, honesty, kindness and responsibility — values taught explicitly and modelled by staff. Pupils are expected to respect classmates, teachers, property and the learning environment, in English or Portuguese, on campus, on trips and online where school life is concerned.
- Code of conduct: listen and participate, complete work honestly, care for books and equipment, wear the school uniform correctly, and speak respectfully to all.
- Anti-bullying: bullying of any kind — physical, verbal, social or online — is not tolerated. Pupils should tell a teacher or trusted adult; parents should alert the school promptly. Every report is taken seriously, investigated fairly and followed up.
- Positive discipline: correction is educational and proportionate — guidance, reflection, restorative conversation, parent partnership. Serious or repeated misconduct follows a graduated process (warning, behaviour plan, suspension) documented in writing.
- Parent partnership: families support learning by ensuring sleep, punctuality and homework routines, and by raising concerns directly with the school rather than on social media.
7Safeguarding & health
Nothing matters more than children's safety. All staff follow safeguarding procedures, recruitment includes suitability checks, and visitors sign in and are supervised. Pupils are supervised throughout the school day, 07:30–16:00, including breaks and authorised activities.
- Medical information: parents must disclose allergies, conditions, medication and emergency contacts at enrolment and update them immediately when they change.
- Medication: prescription medicine is administered only with written parental authorisation and original labelling; pupils must not carry medication without office agreement.
- Emergencies: in an emergency we act first in the child's best interests — first aid, clinic or hospital transfer — and contact parents immediately on registered numbers. Keep those numbers current.
- Photos and data: images and records are handled under the Privacy Policy, with separate written consent for public-facing photos.
8Transport
Home-to-school transport arrangements vary by neighbourhood and term. Routes, stops, schedules and any associated charges must be confirmed with the school office before the start of each term — this page does not promise any particular route.
- Where the school organises or endorses a route, pupils follow driver and supervisor instructions, remain seated, wear seatbelts where fitted, and are handed over only to authorised persons.
- Families using private drivers or public transport remain responsible for the journey outside school supervision; agree pick-up persons and contact numbers with the office in writing.
- Any change to a child's going-home arrangement on a given day must be communicated to the office in good time — verbal messages via the child are not accepted.
9Withdrawal, suspension & refunds
We understand that family circumstances change. Withdrawal requires written notice to the Admissions Office — email to admin@bbamoz.com or a signed letter delivered to Rua 17 de Julho — with the notice period and any leaving charges as stated in the Fee Schedule and the signed enrolment contract. Verbal statements and messages to teachers do not count as formal notice.
- Transfer documents: reports, transfer letters and references are issued once fees due up to the leaving date are settled and school property is returned.
- Suspension or exclusion: for serious misconduct, safeguarding risk or persistent non-payment, the school may suspend or, as a last resort, exclude a pupil following a fair process with written reasons and a right for parents to be heard. Tuition consequences follow the signed contract.
- Refunds: whether any prepaid amounts are refundable — and on what timeline — is governed solely by the Fee Schedule and the signed enrolment contract. Confirm in writing before relying on any expectation.
10Liability, force majeure & governing law
The school exercises reasonable care in all it does but cannot accept liability for events genuinely beyond its control or for loss arising where it has acted with due diligence. Parents remain responsible for information they provide, for persons they authorise, and for valuables children bring to school unnecessarily.
Force majeure — including extreme weather, epidemics, government orders, utility failures or other emergencies — may require temporary closure, timetable changes or remote-learning arrangements. In such cases the school communicates promptly through registered channels and acts in pupils' best interests; fee consequences, if any, follow the Fee Schedule, the signed contract and applicable directives.
